Beauty and the Beast
Beauty and Beast first started in Hollywood Studios in 1991 a couple of years after the parks initial opening. This is a must see for our family and whenever we visit Hollywood Studios we do not leave until we have been to see it. The show lasts approximately 20 minutes and is performed several times each day, look at your Times Guide where they list the times
It is a wonderful mini-version of Walt Disney's classic, and is a spectacular live stage show that you will often hear the music from as you walk around the park. It features the popular characters and songs from the film in a lavish, Broadway style production.
We always arrive twenty to thirty minutes prior to the show to ensure we get a seat and also to watch the warm-up act. Last time we went this act was the cappella group Four for a Dollar and they were really worth listening to.
Although the stage is clearly visible from most of the theatre, if you can sit in the middle or rear of the theatre you will get the best view of the entire stage and the sets.
If you have ever seen the film this stage production mirrors it so well. It tells the story of Belle, a beautiful but bookish girl who lives in a small French town. She is relentlessly pursued by the villain Gaston and she so very much wishes she had a different life.
Her father, a wonderful old man called Maurice, comes across the enchanted castle of the Beast, and, to free him, Belle offers to become a prisoner herself.
Her friends, Mrs. Potts, Lumiere and Cogsworth watch anxiously as Belle grows to love the Beast. The townspeople are led by the jilted Gaston and try to prevent Belle and the Beast from having a happy ending. There are some very noisy scenes and younger children may be frightened although our girls have always loved it. However the huge bats in the forest scene have 8-foot wingspans!
Needless to say there is a proper Disney style happy ending and you will hear the refrains of “Be our Guest” in your ears for many hours to come.
Although there are no official character Meet and Greet opportunities near Beauty and the Beast, Belle and Beast can sometimes be found in Disney Hollywood Studios. Last time we went these were listed in the daily Guide Map and the girls were lucky enough to get both their autographs as well as having there pictures taken.
If you are hungry either before or after the show across the street from the Sunset Boulevard entrance to Beauty and the Beast are a number of fast snack places, including Anaheim Produce and Sunset Market Ranch.
Be sure not to miss this show.
