Bahama Breeze in a Storm
Following an end of holiday shopping trip, we were heading home down the I4 towards Lake Buena Vista when storm clouds began to gather. We hadn’t travelled much further when the inevitable heavens opened. Rain sheeted down all around us and cars began to pull over on the highway. We were planning on eating out that night so I suggested stopping for an early dinner to wait out the storm. We were approaching an exit on the I4 so we carefully changed lanes and pulled off. There were several restaurants available but I thought that it would be sensible to try the one with valet parking, that way we could avoid getting soaked through. “Bahama Breeze it is then” exclaimed my husband.
We chose to sit outside on the deck to watch the storm and listen to the drumming of the rain on the atmospheric tin roof, it really did feel like we were taking shelter from a tropical storm but oh what fantastic shelter. A relaxed atmosphere, live music, fabulous food and a dazzling array of cocktails greeted us. The drinks menu is a weighty book listing cocktails, smoothies, shakes, beers, wines, spirits and speciality coffees. Perusing this is an entertainment in itself then you attack the food menu. We chose to order a selection of appetisers to share, ribs, chicken wings, sizzling garlic prawns and the most fantastic coconut crumbed onion rings. What a feast, so glad that we hadn’t ordered entrees, we could only manage to share a dessert after that.
The desert became the key note of our holiday. “Did you have a good holiday” peopled would enquire. “We had a fantastic pudding at Bahama Breeze” was always the reply. Pina Colada Bread and Butter Pudding, quite simply the most delicious desert ever encountered in Florida, bread and butter pudding (not too sweet) bathed in pina colada sauce, topped with toasted shaved coconut.
On our next visit to Florida Bahama Breeze was one of our first ports of call, we couldn’t wait to try other delights on the menu and indulge in a wonderful cocktail, they even do fabulous non-alcoholic cocktails to treat the kids too! A great relaxing evening out. We can’t wait to visit at a cooler time of year and sit out alongside the fire pit on the deck, enjoying the music and a lovely warm coffee laced with something special.
