Applebees
On a recent trip to our villa on Highlands Reserve, we were delighted to see the opening of an Applebee’s restaurant at next door Berry Town
Centre.
The moment we walked in we were impressed with the relaxed atmosphere and the friendly staff. We opted to have a drink at the bar while our
table was prepared. The theme of the place is American sports and several large TVs were showing a US football game. There seemed to be quite a lot of people just there for a drink and to watch the game.
Drinks are certainly good value as there is an ongoing 2 for 1 deal on beers, wines, spirits and some cocktails… all day, every day! We chose an ice cold beer from a large choice and by the time we had taken a look at the menu we were invited to take our seats.
Seating is either in booths, standard tables or counter type tables with tall stools. Again our friendly waitress quickly greeted us and gave us advice on our order. “Don’t order an appetizer each”, she recommended “You’ll never eat everything” and she was right! I have
never seen such huge onion rings!
Between the family we shared a combo platter and had an extra portion of onion rings and it was more than enough for our party of seven. For our main courses we were torn between delicious looking steaks, seafood and salads or pasta dishes; again our waitress was on hand with recommendations. For those with a smaller (or even normal! ) appetite there is a full selection of meals suitable for sharing such as the mega full back of ribs. I think you would be a very fussy eater indeed if there was nothing on the menu to interest you. Pick and Pair lunches of soups and salads are excellent value starting at $7 or there is a ‘2 for $20 selection’ which includes a sharing appetizer and 2 entrees – ideal for couples. There is even an ‘Under 550 calorie’ menu for those watching their weight!
Unfortunately nobody had any room for a desert as what we saw coming out of the kitchen did look delicious. On future occasions maybe we would have had less of an appetizer and left room for a sweet; but then the starters were very enjoyable so it is a tough choice! Maybe we could go for one of the miniature deserts in a shot glass but this time we were all just too full!
We noticed that there are a couple of special events on through the week. Firstly Wednesdays is ‘Girls Night Out’ with $3 tapas and $4 Margaritas and pitchers of Sangria at two for one prices. There was also a Karaoke night being advertised.
My 22 year old niece and her boyfriend walked the short distance on several occasions to have a drink out together and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the food. It is even possible to call ahead and order food for take away. Ideal when you are staying in a villa but don’t fancy cooking – you could eat by the pool! Maybe it was a good job we didn’t find this out until the last evening! We decided Applebee’s is definitely a welcome addition to the area.
