Applebee's
It was suggested to us that we should try the new Applebee’s that had recently opened on the 192 just in front of Sams Club. We had never heard of this restaurant before, but apparently it is quite a famous restaurant chain across America.
We were met just inside the restaurant by a member of staff who escorted us to our table. We had decided to go for an early evening meal, and being January, the restaurant was only a quarter full when we arrived.
We were introduced to our server who was very polite and took our orders for our drinks. It was lovely to see the wide variety of non-alcoholic drinks available, all with free refills. Not just the standard sprite, coke and ice tea, but tropical drinks such as mango, pineapple, papaya and a berry drink. There were also more exotic non-alcoholic and alcoholic cocktails, but needless to say, these did not come with free refills.
We were provided with the menu, which had a wide variety of dishes including various steaks, salmon, ribs and also combo meals. If you wish to eat at lunch time there is a special set price combo deal, which also looked very appetising.
After perusing the menu I opted for the whole rack of ribs, together with chips and a side salad, and my husband opted for the steak and rib combo. The servings were huge, and even my husband remarked that either the steak or the rib was ample on its own, and it was a struggle to manage both. The side salads were crisp and fresh, and again, there was plenty of it.
Presentation of the meal was superb. The server brought the meals to the table on wicker style mats. The large oval plates were obviously unique to Applebee’s as they were embossed with the Applebee logo within the porcelain, they ranged in colour from green to orange to a mustard yellow, all adding to the eating experience.
We had to question ourselves as to whether or not we could actually manage a pudding, but then decided to opt for the apple pie and ice cream. Well, this was absolutely huge, and I am glad we only ordered the one. We were kindly given two spoons and we ended up sharing. I did feel the choice of puddings was somewhat limited.
All the staff in the restaurant were very helpful and polite, also very well presented. The restaurant was exceptionally clean and standards high.
By the time we had finished our meal the restaurant was fast filling up, only proving how popular it is becoming.
We feel Applebees is a refreshingly different, café style restaurant, slightly up-market from the run of the mill restaurants, and would highly recommend it.
