Amusing Children of Different Ages at Universal and Island of Adventures
What do you do with a Harry Potter mad child and a toddler at the same time. Well that happened to us last year so the family had to split in two. The one with the toddler had to enjoy hours of Doctor Seuss, Camp Jurassic and the kiddies playground. Our toddler was almost 3 and spent hours running through Camp Jurassic. There are swinging rope bridges which he managed with no trouble and caves to explore plus the occasional dinosaur to watch. We had trouble dragging him away.
Eventually we did and took him to The Cat in The Hat ride. He loved it and tried to get back on it. It is very similar to the Winnie the Pooh ride in Disney’s Magic Kingdom. Next the Doctor Seuss shop. Well that was a real challenge to get him to leave, but eventually we managed. He was fascinated just watching some of the water flume rides like Jurassic River Adventure. He just loved running to see if he could dodge the water. The same with the PopEye and Olive Oyl water chute ride, Me Ship: The Olive.
Finally, we made it to Fievels Playland. Tis was the highlight of his day. He had the freedom to run and bounce and fly down closed in tunnel slides, poke his head through holes. It was like the best playground he had ever been in and everything was soft and safe. He discovered a 1, 000-gallon cowboy hat, a 30-foot spider web to climb, tin cans to crawl through, swaying bridges to cross, a giant cowboy boot to explore, and a twisting, turning 200-foot long water slide.
Our method was to meet up for lunch at one of the many restaurants that suited both of them and then the parents swapped over so each child had a different parent and the parents both got to enjoy the more adult aspects of Harry Potter.
Of course now there is the train ride to Universal Studios which suits toddlers and older children alike so at least the entire family can spend some of the day together. There is a good Animal Show at Universal which would suit all ages. Who doesn’t like performing animals and they are all so cute? After that there is the train ride back which is different from the journey to Island of Adventures. Or on your second day you can start at Universal Studios and then take the train to Island of Adventures.
