AMC Theatre Downtown Disney
Well a trip to the movies can prove a very popular activity with young and old, couples and families.
In fact what to do on a day when the weather is very wet, rarely does it rain all day in Florida, but when its not great outside you need to find alternative activities which the weather will not spoil.
On one such day recently me and my husband decided to try a visit to the movies, USA style! We firstly checked online for the nearest location, there are multiplex cinemas all over Florida and the Orlando area, for example one at ' The Loop' and others such as Universal Studios City Walk and Festival Bay Mall, located near International Drive.
We chose the one at Downtown Disney, the AMC Theatre, as it is the closest to our place in Kissimmee. The place is huge, yes, Downtown Disney is huge, but the cinema complex had nine theatres, each of them able to seat over 500 guests. We chose our film, you can book on line, there were many options to chose from. In some showings you could dine as well and choose starter, main, dessert and drinks from a menu, I presume it is delivered to your seat. We just opted for the standard package as we wanted to eat elsewhere after.
We stood in the rain to pay as there is no cover over the line, once inside though we soon dried off. Snacks were extensive, popcorn, sweets/candy, ice cream, soft drinks as well as hot food and a bar. The portions of things were rather bigger than in the UK, so we settled upon a medium bag of popcorn.
Tip:- If visiting with children, the large bags of popcorn are huge nd you get a free refill on it, bring some other bags to share it out and then pop back to the counter to restock. Once we located the theatre, armed with our drinks and mountainous bag of popcorn, we were surprised by the seating.
At first I was looking for smaller seats, thinking they must be the premium seats I was seeing, but no, those huge leather style seats which reclined and had a great amount of leg room (if only the aircraft was like this I thought) were the standard seat. Plenty of space even on a wet day when I thought it would be full, there was hardly anyone viewing the film.
The screen itself was big, we needed to sit near to the back and had to move a few times to gain the optimum viewing experience, sound was also great and surrounded you, making you really feel part of the film. All in all, a great escape from the rain.
