Airboat Charters
Many visitors will at some time probably take an airboat ride during their trip to Florida. The majority of holidaymakers will take one of the many ‘standard’ boat rides – e. g. turn up and share a trip with six to ten strangers, on a predetermined route that the operator follows each and every day. These are without doubt entertaining and economical. However there is another way, slightly more expensive, but tailored to meet your requirements - airboat charters.
One such company lies just to the northeast of Orlando at Port Orange near Daytona Beach, and provides private airboat rides and tours of the upper St. Johns River and Central Florida Lakes. Captain Bruce, who is US Coast Guard Licensed and fully insured, takes out parties of up to four through some of Central Florida’s most scenic lakes and rivers and trips which can be taken either day or night throughout the year.
Trips are organised by calling Captain Bruce (386-212-2495) and, having first discussed the party’s requirements, arranging a meeting place of your choice. You may wish to see alligators, wild hogs, eagles or deer – all these plus an abundance of bird life can be viewed on your own charter trip.
There is no set agenda, so if there is anything that interests you, just let them know and they will try their best to accommodate you. The choice is yours, whether it is a sunset tour or later in the evening to view an incredible full moon. As you travel the St. Johns River, Lake Jesup, Lake Harney, Lake Monroe, and Lake George, large alligators may be seen basking in the waters soaking up the sunshine, or at night, deer can be viewed along the shore line or sometimes seen swimming in the lakes.
The Captain will stop for you to take pictures, and in addition, if you wish, you can take a picnic along or have a swim in safe waters. They are able to help with any requests you may have. Their aim is to make sure you have a brilliant time and to take home memories that will last forever.
To take an evening ride two hours prior to sunset is quite spectacular. The first half of your adventure will be spent on the river and the lakes, then as it becomes darker they use headlamps to seek out the alligators. You really do feel like an actual alligator hunter. This ride is awesome and air boating at its most excellent!
Trips last for two hours and cost $160 for up to four people, with extra hours charged at $40 per hour.
