Afternoon Tea at the Garden Lounge

My Mother and I have now made two visits to have Afternoon Tea in the Garden View Lounge in the Grand Floridian Hotel.

The first time we went Granddad had taken the girls for the day to Typhoon Lagoon. On the spur of the moment we decided to go for Afternoon Tea. We had not made a reservation as we did not think one was necessary.

Tea is served 2 – 4. 30pm daily and we travelled to the hotel on the monorail. It was surprising how quiet this was at this time of day and we sat in the front car. We were a little worried when the driver asked us if we had a reservation for tea as he said it gets very busy.

There was no dress code for this although I must say everyone there looked a little smarter than the usual Disney holiday wear.

Once inside, we loved the girly feel of the room but were a little disturbed when the hostess also asked if we had a reservation. I had read quite a bit about this Afternoon Tea and had never seen anywhere that we should make reservations. However we were lucky and although they were busy they soon found us a table. Our waitress was most attentive throughout the meal.

We decided to order the ' Buckingham Palace, ' which is a plate of 5 tea sandwiches (watercress with cucumber, egg salad, pear, shrimp salad, chicken salad). However my Mother did not want the shrimp or chicken and she was allowed to select two more sandwiches from the non-meat options. The sandwiches were lovely I found the chicken, pear, and shrimp salads were particularly delicious. We were also given an onion and gorgonzola mini-tart which was fabulous.

Following this, we were given a warm scone, complete with preserves and butter they were very warm and tasty.

Finally, dessert was served. This was a choice of strawberries and cream, or two pastries from the pastry tray. There were about 7 pastry options; I got the raspberry mousse swan and an éclair whilst my Mother chose the strawberries and cream.

We enjoyed our first visit so much that we decided to take the girls and Granddad during our next trip to our villa in Florida. This time we made reservations!

We had looked at the menu on line and the girls had already chosen Mrs. Potts Tea for both of them. This was a variety of tea sandwiches, tuna salad, ham and cheese, peanut butter and jelly on white bread. This was serve with their magical dark tea (chocolate milk), followed by a choice of two pastries. I thought this was very reasonable at $10. 50 per child.

My Father chose from the A La Carte menu and ordered the Gentleman' s Tea Platter. This was a house-made duck and cherry terrine, chicken & pork roulade, country pate en croute, accompanied by marinated berries, cumberland sauce and English Blue Stilton.

My Mother and I however could not resist having another Buckingham Palace Tea!

If you fancy something different away for the hustle and bustle of Disney this is a lovely afternoon treat.
