A visit to St Cloud

After visiting the theme parks and shopping malls it is nice to take a trip away from the Disney area to the town of St Cloud, and a visit to a man made beach against Lake Toho.

The round trip from the centre of Kissimmee is approximately 20 miles. The directions are to take the HWY 192 east. As you approach the centre of St Cloud you will see a well known landmark which is a large water tower with the name St Cloud painted on it.

This landmark is situated on the right hand side of the road roughly in the centre of St Cloud. At this point you will also notice there are a series of traffic signals approx 8 of these within a very short distance, and the names of the streets are signposted on the overhead traffic light structures. These names have been allocated to the streets and are named after States in North America. If you make a left turn on any of these streets and continue to the end you will have arrived at Lake Toho.

At the lakeside you will find a sandy beach which is very child friendly also there is a comprehensive playground with the usual swings, slides and water features.

Adjacent to this area there is a well known CRABBY BILLS restaurant where you can buy snacks or a full meal. If you wish to picnic at the Lakeside there are tables, benches and BBQ fires these are all freely available.

There is a Causeway projecting out into the lake were a lot of fishing is done, also there is a Boating Marina with a variety of crafts moored here. One of the benefits of this location is the provision of plenty of free parking.

As you approached the lake from HWY 192 on your arrival, you came through part of the Historic old town of St Cloud. This is an opportunity to have a walk in this area, and is ideal for photographing some of the original properties belonging to the town.

There is a lot of wild life in the area which are people friendly such as Squirrels, Egrets, Cranes etc.

To complete the round trip you can follow the lakeside road heading north – west and in approximately 2 miles there is another boat launching area which usually were all the local fishermen use The roads are well signposted for Kissimmee, and you will pass through many small communities, Eventually arriving back at HWY 192. Take a right heading west to complete the 20 mile circular drive.
