If it is really wet, you could head down to Pointe Orlando, park under cover in their multi story car park then visit the 20+ Imax Cinema for an amazing experience in movie watching. There is also the Upside Down House, which is well worth a visit and great fun. The Wonderworks is also a great place to take the children. They can experience all sorts of wonders, optical illusions, virtual reality experiences and all manner of unusual things. Don’t tell the kids, but it is actually very educational!
The shops in Pointe Orlando are not completely under cover, but if you walk under the awnings you will not get wet. The evening entertainment in the clubs and bars is mainly for the grown ups but there is a crazy golf nearby, if it stops raining. Ripleys Believe It Or Not is close by but for the cost ($70) for a family of 4, I would not recommend it. It is rather tatty and dated , however the children seem to like it as there are lots of hands-on things to do to keep them amused. Could kill an hour or two if it is really raining hard and you want to shelter.
The Orlando Science Centre is fun for the children and very much like our own in London. It has many interactive exhibits for them to have a go on and may things to amaze them like walking across a glass bridge into a three story open lobby or visit the nature works and see a swamp or there is a special Kids Town for the little ones. How about visiting a walk through human body or seeing the skeletons of long dead Dinosaurs up close.
In Disneys Pleasure Island, there is Disney Quest, an interactive entertainment centre located in Downtown Disney West Side, where simulators provide an exciting ' thrill' experience. This is an indoor experience.
It may strange to suggest going to Disneys Animal Kingdom on a dull or rainy day, but the animals are more active. On very hot days, particularly after lunch, they all tend to sleep or just look for shade to hide in. Another park which is not too affected by inclement weather, Universal Studios (not Island of Adventures) as most of the rides and shows are indoors or under cover.
Trainland International Train and Trolley museum would have limited appeal, but if that is your thing then this is the place for you.
If you are a group without children to amuse, there are many wonderful spas in the area where you can be pampered all day – but bring a fairly large wallet! !
