On our second day in Miami we elected to visit the Miami Seaquarium. It shows off the area’s most family friendly assets; sunshine and aquatic life. The Main Reef Aquarium is a 750, 000 gallon saltwater tank filled with plenty of varieties of colourful fish, which gives an in depth look at reef life. The outstanding feature of The Seaquarium is Dolphin Harbor, which features dolphin interaction programmes where you can touch, feed, swim with and learn about these fantastic mammals.
Feelig hungary and taking in a recommendation from the locals we went to the Daily Bread Marketplace. We got falfel to go and bought hummus and pita bread for a well deserved picnic.
After lunch we decided to visit the Miami Metro Zoo. There is something for animal lovers of all stripes, from the Wings of Asia aviary with 300 rare birds to the childrens zoo, where the children interacted with frogs, bearded dragons and butterflies. The zoo’s Ecology Theatre shows animals at their most playful. At Dr. Wilde’s World gallery of intelligent animal exhibits, you will marvel at species after species. The children really enjoyed this special Zoo.
We then headed to Glaser Organic Farms on our way to Monkey Jungle. Glaser grows tropical fruit, makes scrumptious dishes using its produce and sells everything from Chickpea Carrot Croquettes to raw fruit pies!
Monkey Jungle is a 30 acre reserve that houses nearly 400 primates, most of which run free. It is the only protected habitat for endangered primates in the country that the public can explore. The folks at Monkey Jungle make learning about primates fun, and both the kids and us thoroughly enjoyed this experience and it was most intriguing.
As it was late afternoon by now, the children wanted to find a beach and let their hair down, so we headed back to South Beach and had a relaxing couple of hours whilst the children were really happy in the ocean.
We returned to our hotel to get showered and changed before hitting the promenade for what was a most interesting evening people watching and having dinner in one of the plentiful restaurants catering for every single taste. We enjoyed a good walk as we needed to stop at every restaurant to read the menu and decide which one was best!
A very tired family got into bed that night and enjoyed a good night’s sleep before we ventured out for Day 3.
